Warri Wolves suffered a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Nasarawa United, popularly known as the Solid Miners, in their Nigeria Premier Football League 2025/2026 Matchweek 35 encounter at the Lafia City Stadium.
What began as a contest filled with promise for the visitors ultimately unraveled into a one-sided affair as the hosts asserted their dominance when it mattered most.
Warri Wolves approached the fixture with visible intent, energy, and discipline, matching Nasarawa United stride for stride in the early exchanges. For much of the first half, their organization and defensive resolve frustrated the hosts, keeping the game delicately poised.
However, just as the half seemed destined to end goalless, the breakthrough arrived in the 43rd minute under contentious circumstances. A penalty awarded to the home side was calmly dispatched by Victor Chimezie, handing Nasarawa United a crucial 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
The second half resumed with heightened urgency from both sides.
Warri Wolves attempted to respond, making tactical substitutions aimed at injecting pace and creativity into their attacking play. Despite their efforts, they struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, while Nasarawa United grew increasingly confident and assertive.
That growing dominance paid off in the 62nd minutes when Ngei Oluka-Efor doubled the lead with a well-taken finish, further tilting the momentum firmly in favour of the hosts. With the game slipping away, Warri Wolves pushed numbers forward in search of a lifeline, but their advances left gaps at the back.
Those vulnerabilities were exposed again in the 74th minute as Habibu Alakija put the result beyond doubt, finishing off a decisive move to make it 3-0 and effectively seal all three points for the Solid Miner.
For Warri Wolves, it was a result that exposed both defensive frailties and attacking inefficiencies. Despite a promising first half showing, their inability to maintain concentration and convert possession into meaningful chances proved costly.
The defeat sees Warri Wolves drop to 17th position on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL26) standings with 43 points, intensifying the pressure as the season approaches its critical stages. With the relegation battle tightening, every point now carries significant weight.
Attention now shift to their next fixture against Plateau United at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro-a crucial opportunity for the Seasiders to regroup, respond, and attempt to rewrite their narrative before the campaign slips further out of reach.
