Sporting Lagos have been crowned 2025-2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Four champions after edging Inter Lagos on goal difference in a tense and dramatic finish to the competition, despite suffering a narrow defeat on the final day.
In Friday’s decisive clash at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Inter Lagos edged Sporting Lagos 1-0 courtesy of a well-taken 7th-minute goal by Bashir Hassan.
Sporting Lagos responded with increased intensity as the game progressed, creating several promising openings, particularly in the second half, but they were repeatedly denied by a resolute Inter Lagos defence and a disciplined goalkeeping display.
Even as Sporting Lagos piled on late pressure in search of an equaliser, Inter Lagos held firm to see out a hard-fought 1-0 victory at full-time.
However, the bigger picture belonged to Sporting Lagos.
Despite today’s setback, their earlier performances in the Super Four proved decisive in the title race.
Sporting Lagos began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ranchers Bees before producing a dominant display to thrash Doma United 4-0 in their second outing. Those results ensured they remained firmly in contention going into the final round.
At the end of the competition, Sporting Lagos finished level on points (6) with Inter Lagos but edged them on goal difference (+4) to clinch the Super Four title.
Sporting Lagos are therefore crowned overall champions of the 2025-2026 NNL season, sealing a memorable campaign.
