GOODNESS NWACHUKWU BREAKS WORLD RECORD

Goodness Nwachukwu successfully defended her Commonwealth title in the women’s Para discus throw F42-44/F61-64 final.

She saved her best for the final round, producing a sensational 39.66m throw to smash her own F42 world record by more than three metres and win Nigeria’s seventh gold medal of the Games.

Her compatriot, Destiny Agbo, recorded a personal best of 33.79m to finish fifth in the same final.

JESSICA OJI WINS HISTORIC SILVER

Making her Commonwealth Games debut, 19-year-old Jessica Oji claimed silver in the women’s shot put with a best throw of 17.87m.

Oji finished level with Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron but secured silver on countback due to her superior second-best throw. She became Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games medallist in the event since Vivian Chukwuemeka in 2006.

ADAMA MAKES NIGERIAN SWIMMING HISTORY

Abduljabar Adama became Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games swimming finalist after qualifying for the men’s 50m butterfly final.

The Nigerian finished an impressive fifth in 23.42 seconds, competing against some of the world’s leading swimmers.

In the men’s 200m freestyle heats, Clinton Opute clocked 2:03.35 and finished 35th overall, bringing his campaign to an end.
