The North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the APC, disclosed this on Friday during a courtesy visit to Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Grand Patron of the group.
Yilwatda said the North-Central stakeholders, comprising the six governors in the zone, government appointees and other critical stakeholders, had resolved to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the group would hold a mass rally on Oct. 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to demonstrate its support for the President.
According to him, the six states in the North-Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will mobilise APC members and supporters for the rally.
“We agreed that overwhelmingly the North Central would mobilise votes and overwhelmingly support Mr President as our candidate in the 2027 general election,” Yilwatda said.
He said the rally would also be used to demonstrate solidarity with Tinubu and communicate the zone’s intention to mobilise votes for his re-election.
Yilwatda added that the group would organise medical outreaches in selected states across the zone to provide healthcare support to poor and vulnerable residents.
He said the network would also constitute a reconciliation committee to address grievances within the party and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 election.
“We are also going to constitute a reconciliation committee to ensure that where we have grievances, we amend them and aggregate all the votes and support for Mr President towards the 2027 general election,” he said.
Yilwatda said the group would meet again the following week to intensify preparations for the Lafia rally.
Responding, Akume said the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network was established to mobilise support across the North-Central geopolitical zone for the re-election of Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Akume said the network had outlined three major programmes aimed at mobilising support for the administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He listed them as the North Central Grand Rally scheduled for Oct. 10 in Lafia; a medical outreach in the three senatorial zones of Benue; and a grassroots advocacy tour and town hall meetings across the 19 senatorial districts in the six North-Central states and the FCT.
The SGF said the medical outreach would provide comprehensive eye screening and treatment, refraction and prescription of spectacles, cataract assessment and selected cataract surgeries where facilities were available.
Other services, he said, would include glaucoma screening and diabetic eye screening.
Akume said the advocacy tour and town hall meetings were designed to engage communities across the North-Central zone.
He said the programmes were being coordinated by the National Coordinator of the network, Arch. Sonny St. Echono, and his team in collaboration with other stakeholders.
According to him, the programme has been endorsed by the APC National Secretariat.
He said the objective was to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the North-Central zone ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.
