The 2026 season of Nationwide League One is set to begin, with fans eagerly anticipating the opening fixture scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026.

The season will kick off in Makurdi, where local sides Flight FC and NYSC FC will face off at the McCarthy Stadium.

 

The choice of venue underscores the league’s commitment to bringing football closer to grassroots communities and giving fans the chance to watch homegrown talents showcase their skills.

Speaking ahead of the new season, Olushola Ogunnowo expressed excitement about the league’s progress and the upcoming kickoff.

He noted that anticipation is building rapidly as the new campaign begins, adding that the league has already launched its groupings—now totaling 46—as part of an expanded structure that reaches every state in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Full fixtures are expected to be released in the coming week.

Dr. Ogunnowo also highlighted the league’s push toward modernization, including the relaunch of its official website to enhance user experience and engagement for both fans and clubs.

As part of this digital transformation, the NLO has partnered with Zkyte Technology, reinforcing its commitment to innovation.

He concluded by emphasizing the league’s determination to keep evolving in order to meet the growing and changing demands of Nigerian football.
