Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has urged Edo Queens to maintain their impressive form and secure the league title as a tribute to Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Shaibu gave the charge while addressing the team at Benin Airport following their return from Yola, Adamawa State. He praised the players for their resilience and strong performances so far, noting that they have what it takes to win the Super Six and represent Nigeria on the continental stage.
“I’m delighted to see you all and proud of your achievements so far,” he said. “However, the job is not done yet. There are still matches to be played before the Super Six. You are currently top of your group, and it’s important to maintain that momentum and continue proving your quality.”
He emphasized the growing reputation of Edo Queens in African women’s football, urging the players to believe in themselves and rise to expectations.
“Edo Queens is now a household name, and all eyes are on you because of your track record. You must give your best to win the Super Six for Edo State,” he added.
Shaibu also commended Governor Okpebholo for sustaining support for sports development in the state, describing it as a vital tool for youth empowerment.
He assured the team of continued backing and pledged to personally support them during the Super Six.
“I strongly believe Edo Queens can emerge as league champions,” he said.
Edo Queens currently top Group A of the Nigeria Women Football League with 28 points and four matches remaining in the regular season.
