The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, says Nigeria’s security situation has improved, noting that the insurgent group, Boko Haram, has been significantly degraded.

Akume stated this while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organisation (RHFCO) at his office in Abuja.
He said sustained military operations, alongside non-kinetic measures, had reduced the capacity of terrorist elements, with their attacks now largely sporadic and less effective.
The SGF, however, said the Federal Government was strengthening the nation’s defence architecture through the acquisition of arms and ammunition, as well as improved operational strategies by security agencies.
“The problems we are having are temporary and will certainly go away. Things are already beginning to pick up,” he said.
Akume expressed optimism that the country’s security challenges would soon be overcome.
Speaking earlier, the National Coordinator of RHFCO, Abdullahi Ahmad Tibbo, pledged the group’s support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
Tibbo said the organisation would mobilise Fulani pastoralist communities across the country to support the administration.
“We declare that the Fulbe are fully behind President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima for a second term. We will galvanise our people to deliver massive support at the polls,” he said.
He said the administration had introduced policies beneficial to Fulbe communities, including the student loan scheme, local government autonomy, economic stabilisation measures and the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Tibbo described the organisation as a non-partisan, grassroots-driven platform committed to integrating Fulbe communities into Nigeria’s democratic and development processes.
He added that the group had established structures in over 20 states to enhance civic participation and voter mobilisation.
In his remarks, Akume commended the group for its commitment to national unity and inclusiveness.
He urged members to intensify grassroots sensitisation, particularly encouraging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate in the democratic process.
The SGF also highlighted key initiatives of the administration, including the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development to boost the sector and improve the livelihoods of pastoral communities.
He assured the delegation that its requests, including recognition as a strategic mobilisation partner and provision of logistics support, would be considered.
Earlier, the group led by its National Coordinator, Hon. Abdullahi Tibbo, said it would mobilise Fulani pastoralists communities across Nigeria to deliver massive votes for the administration.
“We hereby declare that the Fulbe are fully behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term. We will galvanize our people to deliver massive support at the polls,” Tibbo stated.
He appealed for inclusion in government policy dialogue platforms, especially in livestock development programmes, and requested mobility support to enhance its outreach.
The delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, economic empowerment and civic engagement among Fulbe communities nationwide.
