The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced that the first phase of the 2026 National Division One and Two League for male and female teams will hold from May 23 to June 7, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
According to the federation, the championship, approved by the League Management Committee, will feature volleyball clubs, sports institutions, military organisations, and paramilitary teams from across the country in what is expected to be one of the most competitive domestic volleyball competitions in recent years.
The official programme released by the federation shows that participating teams are expected to arrive on May 23, while the technical meeting will take place on May 24. Competition events will run from May 24 to June 6, with departure scheduled for June 7.
The NVBF stated that the competition is aimed at improving competitive volleyball standards across the divisions, discovering and developing emerging talents, promoting national unity through sportsmanship, strengthening institutional participation in volleyball, and preparing athletes and clubs for continental and international competitions.
The federation reiterated its commitment to the development of volleyball in Nigeria through professionally organised leagues that provide opportunities for athletes, coaches, referees, and administrators.
Speaking on the importance of the championship, the federation described the league as more than just a tournament, noting that it represents a strategic developmental pathway for the growth and advancement of volleyball in the country.
Under the leadership of Musa Nimrod, the federation said it has continued to implement reforms and programmes targeted at increasing grassroots participation, institutional competitiveness, and elite volleyball performance.
The NVBF also appreciated the support of stakeholders, clubs, government agencies, and sports institutions for their contributions to the growth of volleyball in Nigeria.
With Abuja expected to host teams from different parts of the country, the federation expressed confidence that the 2026 National Division One and Two League First Phase will deliver exciting competition and further strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as an emerging force in African volleyball.
