The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) under the leadership of Francis Orbih has announced vacancies for national coaching positions as part of its efforts to strengthen the sport’s development framework and enhance the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.
In a nationwide call for applications, the federation said it is seeking qualified, experienced, and result-driven coaches to lead the growth of badminton across all levels while supporting the long-term development of athletes.
The available positions include Head Coach, Assistant Coach I, and Assistant Coach II for the Senior National Team, Junior National Team, and Para Badminton Team.
According to the federation, successful candidates will be responsible for talent identification, athlete development, competition preparation, and overall team management.
The coaches will also be expected to design and implement training programmes, improve players’ technical and tactical capabilities, conduct performance assessments, and prepare athletes for both domestic and international competitions.
BFN noted that beyond technical responsibilities, national coaches will serve as mentors, role models, disciplinarians, and strategic planners, helping to build confidence, resilience, and professionalism among athletes.
The federation further highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of safety, ethics, and administration.
Coaches will be required to foster a conducive training environment, promote sportsmanship, maintain accurate performance records, and contribute to the development of emerging coaches within the system.
To qualify for the positions, applicants must possess a coaching certification recognised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the Badminton Confederation of Africa (CBA), or a higher qualification.
Candidates must also have experience representing Nigeria or a state at national competitions, while previous coaching experience at either level will be considered an added advantage.
Other requirements include computer literacy, strong communication and mentoring abilities, analytical and planning skills, flexibility, and a commitment to professional ethics. Applicants must not be older than 55 years at the time of application.
