President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Lekan Fatodu, has applauded the Nigeria Police Force for releasing two of its outstanding swimmers, Corporal Collins Ebinga and Corporal Dorcas Oka, to represent Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
Fatodu described the decision by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, as a remarkable demonstration of visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to sports development, saying the move will strengthen Nigeria’s quest for success at one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.
He commended the IGP, himself a sports enthusiast and accomplished judoka, for creating an enabling environment for police athletes to pursue excellence while serving the nation.
The Aquatics Federation president also reserved special praise for the Chairman of the Police Swimming Association, DCP Bello, whose dedication to nurturing swimming talents within the Force has continued to produce athletes capable of competing at the highest level.
Fatodu noted that the release of Ebinga and Oka goes beyond administrative approval, describing it as a strong vote of confidence that will further motivate the athletes to deliver outstanding performances for Nigeria.
“We deeply appreciate the Inspector-General of Police for this invaluable support and encouragement. His commitment to sports has once again demonstrated that Nigerian athletes can count on the backing of the Police Force as they pursue international success,” Fatodu said.
He urged Corporal Collins Ebinga and Corporal Dorcas Oka to embrace the opportunity with pride and determination, charging them to be exemplary ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
“As you step onto the international stage, remember that you carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians. Compete with discipline, courage and integrity, and strive to bring honour to the Nigeria Police Force and our great country,” he added.
The participation of the two police swimmers underscores the growing collaboration between the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and the Nigeria Police Force in developing elite athletes capable of winning honours for the country at major international competitions, with attention now turning to Glasgow where Team Nigeria will aim to make a strong impact at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
