The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has selected 12 prospective volleyball coaches to participate in the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Level I Coaching Certification Course, scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from August 3 to 8, 2026.
The delegation comprises national team players, former international athletes, and coaches from various volleyball league clubs across the country.
The delegates includes seven female coaches and five male coaches, reflecting the Federation’s commitment to strengthening the country’s coaching capacity while promoting greater female representation in volleyball coaching.
According to the NVBF, the initiative forms part of its long-term strategy to develop a new generation of technically skilled coaches capable of driving the sport’s growth at all levels.
The Federation noted that the number of qualified female volleyball coaches in the country remains relatively low, making the programme a strategic investment in bridging the gender gap in coaching and empowering more women to take up technical roles within the sport.
The selected participants are Dorothy Egbum (Team Leader), Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua, and George Samson Malaika.
The NVBF disclosed that the FIVB made the final selection of the 12 participants from an initial shortlist of 15 candidates submitted after a screening exercise conducted by the Chairman of the Federation’s Technical Committee/Secretariat of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation ( NVBF).
The Federation congratulated the selected coaches and expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical skills they will acquire during the certification programme will contribute significantly to the development of volleyball in Nigeria.
