Nigeria’s women’s team advanced to the semifinals of the African Beach Volleyball Championship after defeating Morocco 2-1 in their quarterfinal match at Abu Heif Beach in Alexandria.
Nigeria won the opening set 21-17, before Morocco responded in the second set to take it 21-15, forcing a decisive third set.
Nigeria then secured the deciding set 15-11 to complete the 2-1 victory and book their place in the semifinals.
The result confirms Nigeria’s place among the final four, as the remaining quarterfinal matches determine the other semifinalists.
The championship continues until August 22, under the patronage of Engineer Ayman Atiya, Governor of Alexandria, and in coordination with the Egyptian Volleyball Federation, while Aida Ismail chairs the Supreme Organizing Committee.
Bouchra Hajij, President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), is following the competition from the courts, monitoring the progress of the matches and the organizational aspects of the continental event.
The championship carries particular importance as a qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the winners of the men’s and women’s competitions earning direct qualification for the Olympics.
