The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has held a strategic meeting with respected football patron, Chief Jim Martin Nwabueze Akubudike, as preparations intensify for the second edition of the Anambra State Akubudike Football Tournament.
The high-level engagement, which took place in a cordial and forward-looking atmosphere, centered on expanding the scope, structure, and impact of the tournament, which made a strong debut during its maiden edition.
Speaking after the meeting, Iloenyosi expressed confidence that the upcoming edition will surpass expectations in every aspect.
“The first edition laid a solid foundation for what we envision as a landmark grassroots football project in Anambra State. I can assure everyone that the second edition will be bigger, better, and more impactful,” Iloenyosi stated.
He emphasized that the tournament is not just about competition, but about discovering talents, uniting communities, and creating pathways for young footballers to pursue professional careers.
“Our goal is to build a sustainable football culture from the grassroots. We are committed to giving our young talents a platform to shine, compete, and attract opportunities beyond the state.”
Chief Akubudike, whose support for sports development in the state has been widely acknowledged, reiterated his commitment to ensuring the tournament continues to grow in stature and organization.
“Football remains a powerful tool for youth engagement and community development. This tournament is about investing in our future.
We are determined to raise the standard this year and make it a truly memorable event,” he said.
Sources close to the organizing committee revealed that the second edition will feature improved logistics, enhanced officiating standards, broader team participation, and increased community involvement. Plans are also underway to attract scouts and stakeholders within the Nigerian football ecosystem.
