City FC Abuja on Monday is delighted to announce the official arrival of Austrian football executive and UEFA Pro Licence holder Mike Dirnberger in Nigeria, as he formally assumes his role as the club’s Managing Director Sport.
Following the successful conclusion of extensive international negotiations, Dirnberger’s relocation from Austria to Abuja represents a significant milestone in City FC Abuja’s ambition to establish European-standard sporting, technical, and administrative structures.
With the club focused on building a sustainable and competitive football project, Dirnberger will take a hands-on approach to the technical and sporting operations of City FC Abuja. His immediate mandate includes a comprehensive review and restructuring of the club’s training methodology, with a strong emphasis on modern coaching principles, high-performance physical conditioning, tactical organisation, player development, and overall team productivity.
A holder of the UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching qualification in European football, Dirnberger brings valuable international experience and expertise to the club’s technical operations.
Beyond the pitch, his academic and professional background further strengthens the club’s executive structure. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management as well as a Degree in International Business Law, providing a strong foundation in strategic management, corporate governance, talent development, and sustainable football administration.
Dirnberger also brings an extensive network within European football, including experience associated with clubs competing in UEFA competitions and multi-club football environments. This network is expected to create opportunities for international scouting, player development, transfer partnerships, strategic collaborations, and broader global football relationships for City FC Abuja.
As Managing Director Sport, Mike Dirnberger will assume overall responsibility for:
Restructuring daily training programmes, match preparation, tactical organisation, and performance systems in line with modern European football standards.
Overseeing player recruitment, squad planning, talent identification, player development, and the strategic direction of the club’s youth academy.
Strengthening coordination between the technical and administrative departments while developing international football partnerships and strategic relationships.
Introducing structured approaches to physical conditioning, tactical education, performance monitoring, and long-term player development.
City FC Abuja is confident that Dirnberger’s arrival will bring a new level of professionalism, structure, and international expertise to the club as it continues its journey towards becoming a leading football institution in Nigeria.
