FC ONA-PAL’s preparations for the new season gathered momentum but also revealed key areas for improvement following a 0–3 defeat to Campos FC in a high-intensity friendly encounter played on Wednesday, at Oboro Secondary School, Ikwuano.
The match, which served as a crucial test of readiness and tactical cohesion, lived up to expectations with both sides displaying energy, structure, and competitive spirit.
Significantly, costly errors proved decisive in the outcome.
Campos FC took control early in the game, capitalizing on a goalkeeping mistake to open the scoring through Chidiebere Anochinwa.
The pressure continued to mount, and another lapse at the back allowed Emeka Njoku to double the advantage before halftime, giving Campos FC a comfortable 2–0 lead heading into the break.
Despite efforts by FC ONA-PAL to regroup and improve their organization in the second half, another defensive error was punished, with Chukwuemeka Nnadi sealing the victory with the third goal.
The encounter highlighted the importance of concentration and discipline, especially in critical moments, as all three goals conceded stemmed from avoidable mistakes two in the first half from goalkeeping errors and one in the second half due to a defensive lapse.
Under the guidance of coach Emma Osigwe, FC ONA-PAL showed glimpses of promise, particularly in their build-up play and intensity, but will need to tighten their defensive structure and decision-making as the season approaches.
On the other hand, Campos FC, led by head coach Chibueze, demonstrated efficiency and composure, making the most of their opportunities.
