Nigeria’s women’s team booked their place in the final of the African Beach Volleyball Championship after securing a deserved 2-0 victory over Mozambique in a strong semifinal clash at Abu Heif Beach in Alexandria.
Nigeria took control from the start, winning the opening set 21-17, before maintaining their advantage in the second set and claiming it by the same score, 21-17, to complete a straight-sets victory and secure their place in the final.
The victory puts Nigeria one step away from achieving their Olympic dream, as they will compete in the final for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification ticket against the winner of the semifinal between Egypt and Morocco.
The final carries exceptional importance, as the battle goes beyond the African Beach Volleyball Championship title to the fight for direct qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, giving the decisive match historic significance for the winning team.
The championship continues at Abu Heif Beach in Alexandria, under the patronage of Engineer Ayman Atiya, Governor of Alexandria, and in coordination with the Egyptian Volleyball Federation, while Aida Ismail chairs the Supreme Organizing Committee.
Bouchra Hajij, President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), is following the competition from the courts, monitoring the progress of the matches and the organizational aspects of the continental event.
All eyes now turn to the Egypt-Morocco semifinal to determine Nigeria’s opponent in the final, as the race for the African title and the coveted Los Angeles 2028 qualification ticket reaches its decisive stage.
