Ogoni Youths decry lack of funding orf federal university of environment and technology,

Port Harcourt, Feb. 1, 2026- Some concerned youths and civil society groups in Ogoni have expressed worries over the lack of funding of the newly established Federal University of Environment Technology(FUET)located in Ogoniland.

According to the groups, the institution had yet to commence impactful learning program as it grapple with infrastructural inadequacies.

At a media briefing on Sunday in Port Harcourt, Comrade Imeabe Oscar, President, Ogoni Youths Development Initiative (OYDI) said ‘We deeply frown against a deliberate action by the NNPCL to truncate the smooth take-off of the Federal University of Environment Technology(FUET)’

“NNPCL, by its action clearly breached an agreement reached between the Ogoni people and President Bola Tinubu by its refusal to adequately fund the institution as directed by presidency.

“Investigation had shown that other institutions established alongside FUET by the federal government have been adequately funded for full operations while FUET is yet to access such benefit.

“We are non-violent, however, we will not let the fruit of the labours of our slain heros suffer neglect and abandonment,” he said.

Narrating a troubling atmosphere at the university, Oscar noted that some contractors have locked up some of the buildings leaving the students and teachers without offices and classrooms.

“Currently, all projects at the compuses have been haulted due to non-payment of contractors by NNPCL,” he added.
