Former Super Eagles captain and Nigeria’s most-capped international, Ahmed Musa, has donated ₦2 million to the Nigeria U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, as they intensify preparations for the WAFU B U20 Championship scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire from July 26 to August 9, 2026.
The cash gift was presented to the team through the Flying Eagles’ Coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Abubakar, as a demonstration of Musa’s continued commitment to supporting the development of young football talents in Nigeria.
While making the donation, Musa urged the players to remain disciplined, focused and determined as they prepare for the regional championship, which will determine the WAFU B representatives at the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who earned 111 caps for Nigeria and scored four FIFA World Cup goals across the 2014 and 2018 tournaments, reminded the players that success at the U20 level often serves as the foundation for a successful professional career.
Drawing from his own experience as a former Flying Eagles player who won the 2011 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in South Africa, Musa encouraged the players to seize the opportunity before them and make a lasting impression.
“Your journey to becoming top professional footballers starts here. The commitment, discipline and performances you put in at this stage will shape the future of your careers. Stay focused, work hard and give your best for Nigeria.”
Speaking on behalf of the team, Flying Eagles captain Simon Habila expressed appreciation for Musa’s generosity and words of encouragement.
Habila assured the former Super Eagles skipper that the players remain fully committed to their preparations and are determined to make Nigeria proud at the tournament.
The Flying Eagles will continue their training programme ahead of their departure to Côte d’Ivoire, where they will compete for regional honours and a place at the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
