The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) is planning to create the position of a technical director to ensure continuity and strengthen the long-term development of volleyball in the country, President Musa Nimrod has said.
Nimrod said the federation was considering a structure similar to that of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), where a technical director oversees development programmes and provides direction for national teams.
Nimrod stated this during the official unveiling ceremony took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, , on Wednesday, in Abuja.
“We are also intending to have our technical director, like Austin Eguaveon of the NFF. We need somebody like that in our own federation too, who will now be working,” Nimrod said.
He explained that the proposed technical director would continue the federation’s development programmes, especially after the departure of foreign coaches, by coordinating activities and monitoring growth across the country.
“When the international coaches go, then we would be able to have a technical director that will be going around the country. The developmental programme will continue. There should be continuity,” he added.
The NVBF president said the move was inspired by the success of established volleyball nations, particularly in Africa, where strong technical structures have helped sustain progress and improve performance.
Nimrod made the disclosure during the unveiling of Japanese volleyball expert Ryan Masajedi as Technical Adviser/Coach to Nigeria’s national volleyball teams in Abuja.
Masajedi, who will work with Nigeria’s women’s team, men’s team and the Under-18 programme, is expected to contribute to the development of local coaches and players as part of a 12-month technical support programme backed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
