Onne Port distributes free medicines, other medical services to Retirees.
Port Harcourt, April 23, 2026,-Mr Abdulrahmon Hussain, Port Manager, Onne Seaport has reiterated agency’s commitment to welfare and interest of its retirees as he unvailed a one-day the distribution multivitamin medicines and other medical services to honor them.
Hussain gave the assurance at the Port’s complex in Onne on Thursday while marking the annual appreciation day for retirees of the port.
He said that the essence of the event was to appreciate the retirees who have shown commitment, laid foundation and delivered their best towards actualisation of the organization’s mandates .
According to the Port Manager, the event is in line with the Managing Director’s (Abubakr Dantsoho) passion for a healthy and energetic retired group.
” We are here to appreciate our retirees because we acknowledge that the foundation we are standing upon today was laid by them.”
“While in service, they mentored the junior officers and contributed immensely to the growth and development of this port and we want to sincerely show them that they are still members of the family though retired.
“Aside the multivitamins and other medicines provided for them, I feel the most important is the demonstration of love and care our senior citizens are getting today and I look forward to a better package next year,”he said.
Also speaking ,the Chief Medical officer, (CMO) Onne Port complex Dr. Bashir Kangiwa thanked the Port Manager for the initiative describing it as the first of its kind.
He noted that the NPA’s health policy also accommodates retirees and their spouses except in severe cases beyound facility’s capacity where referrals to higher hospitals becomes necessary.
Some of the beneficiaries also commended NPA for the gesture, one of them, Mr Okeke uzoechi, a retired Electrical Engineer promised to ensure a sustainable partnership even as a retiree.
“Retirement is not condemnation, it is another avenue for us to look inwards and explore other areas of human endeavours so as to remain relevant,” he said.
